Taos Pueblo Artists Historic Pueblo Art Pueblo Art from the Millicent Rogers Museum Collection ![]() ![]() The Millicent Rogers Museum has an extensive collection of two-dimensional works by 20th Century Native American artists. The core of Pueblo Indian works were donated by Mary B. Rogers, mother of Millicent Rogers. These works on paper illustrate the history of Southwest Indian life. One of the least understood and poorest documented chapters of 20th century art history of Native Americans is the paintings of Taos Pueblo artists: Albert Looking Elk (Martinez), Albert Lujan, Juan Mirabal, and Juanito Concha. These and other pueblo painters are but a few who worked in oil, and some are represented in the Museum's collection. The Museum also holds a large collection of Oo-oonah -- "child" -- art done by 7th and 8th grade students from 1968-1972. Taos Pueblo micaceous clay pottery has been a tradition for centuries and the museum presents pottery examples from present day and earlier artisans. |
